A Flying Lesson
Multimedia project (drawing, happening, video, audio, research) / 04:57 / 2024

Combining elements of happening, visual art and participatory research, the project appeals to the theme of the sky, dreams and the future.

Artists are those who, through their own creativity, maintain a connection with their inner child, and also (perhaps exactly due to it) are those who first see the future, generate bold dreams and inspire society to move towards them. So I invited both Ukrainian and international art residents to share the future's visions that they have for both Europe and Ukraine, the scenarios of their relations in the ideal possible world.

Through the metaphorical action of flying a kite, the video reminds us of what unites us all – childhood and its inherent dreaminess and carefreeness.

The subject of the expectations, when we look up, according to Carl Jung, raises inside us unconsciously. The sky, which in the classical sense is a symbol of freedom, infinity, eternity, the place of residence of the gods, has become a symbol of danger for Ukrainians since 2022, a place from which missiles fly, destruction and death come.

Participants: Victoriya Taraban, Daniel Loagar, Julia Berkovica, Didier Scheuren, Arthur De Cort, Olena Kulish, Valentyna Romanova, Tetyana Kramarenko, Lina Kirjazovaite, Jan Thau
